At number 6 of Eratosthenous Street, survives a hangout that is a living part of the city’s history, one that created a community around it before it was cool and one that continues unabated in the “now”: It’s the Louvron, and the use of the word “survives” is deliberate, because when the charismatic team of “It’s a Village” and – the recent instant hit – “Steppa” took it over, they embraced every retro aspect of it, respected the mural on the ceiling that a 50’s painter worked on night and day, polished the magnificent mosaic, that continues to grace the footsteps of visitors.
What’s changed from the distant 1937 when Louvron first opened is everything that matters, and all those qualities you expect from a modern all day shop to the superlative degree: irresistible specialty coffee, handpicked for Louvron in cooperation with Qualita Unica, a delectable menu curated by executive chef Antonis Kliton Maliki, which successfully balances between brunch and “tantalizing” meze – all beautifully presented and with quality ingredients – but also spirits, cocktails, wines and beer to warm up your mood from early afternoon after the office, until late evening.
Come here early in the morning to treat your day with delicious eggs with beans and handmade sausage aka The Brettanic or sweeten your hypoglycemic craving with fluffy golden doughnuts with honey, walnuts, toasted almonds and cinnamon. Stay for the light, handmade minced chicken kebab topped with an excellent peach mayonnaise with peach salad and chilli, the handmade cheese dip (tyrokafteri) served with pita bread or a juicy, lemony pork fried with fresh oregano and sun-dried tomato.
The surprises do not end here, since all the above can be combined with alternative signature cocktails such as the humorously named Musee Du Louvre with mastic, gin, mandarin from the island of Chioc, fresh lemon juice and sweet grape, the street is beautiful at dusk with the lights of the cars coming and going cinematically. Take the trouble to follow in the footsteps of its history, you will get lost in this most wonderful time capsule of Pagrati.
